I believe that you(th) can change the world.
Climate change and sustainability information can be complex. It is made murky with jargon, political bias, and scientific theories. The valuable, high-quality information we need to take action is often barricaded by paywalls and subscriptions. The free stuff is hard to decipher; what is fact versus fiction? These knowledge barriers make it hard to picture the role that we each play in global challenges – and global solutions.
Despite confusing and conflicting messages, two things are certain. First, we cannot wait to take action against climate change. Second, each and every one of us has the power to create change.
Through this platform, I hope to clear the air around these complex global issues. Using my academic and professional background in sustainability science and systems change theory, I seek to educate you about the sustainability issues facing our planet, inspire you to take action, and mobilize you through real-world examples of how to take action.
Through the collective actions of individuals like you and I, we can build a sustainable future.
the voice behind Clear the Air
My name is Jenna (she/her). I am a plant-loving 24-year-old. I am a Master’s of Global Governance Candidate and professional sustainability communicator. While my research focuses on foster equitable climate governance practices, my passion is to connect with and empower young people like myself to take their futures into their own hands.
My experiences in sustainability activism over the years has evolved my understanding of what it means to live a sustainable lifestyle. From working at a university Sustainability Office, to climbing across ravines in search of endangered snakes, mobilizing youth in non-profits and the United Nations, and interviewing young leaders on Clear the Air, I know first-hand the power and passion of young people. Using the knowledge and insights I have gained through these experiences, I can help you transform the world.
Youth have the passion, creativity, and determination necessary to change the world. They just need the tools and resources to unlock their full potential as change-makers.
That’s what Clear the Air is here for.
The more I learned in school and my personal ventures, the more I recognized that information about climate change is not accessible to youth or the general public. It is presented using technical, jargon-heavy language. It is not relevant to the everyday lives of youth in the 21st century, and the conventional solutions continue to disempower marginalized voices in our society.
To address climate change, everyone needs the know-how and capacity to be a changemaker. Clear the Air has transformed into an educational outlet to share my learnings and experiences in the field to support youth in fostering a sustainable, equitable world.
When I’m not researching and writing about the latest environmental problems, I can be found doing handstands in random places, cooking up a storm, or exploring the cityscape in my new home in Ottawa, Ontario.
